Ian Mackersey was an aviation writer and documentary film maker who lived in New Zealand. His biographies of the tragic life of the beautiful pioneer aviator Jean Batten, the 'Garbo of the Skies', of 'Smithy' the great Australian oceanic pilot Charles Kingford Smith, and the Wright Brothers, the eccentric geniuses who invented the powered flying machine, were widely acclaimed.​ Ian Mackersey died in 2015.
