Jane Lythell worked as a television producer for fifteen years; moved to the British Film Institute as Deputy Director; did one year as Chief Executive of BAFTA and seven years at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office before starting to write full-time.

Her first two novels, psychological thrillers The Lie of You and After the Storm were USA Today bestsellers. The Lie of You was adapted into the Lifetime movie A Working Mom's Nightmare, starring Tuppence Middleton and Rupert Graves.
