Helen Cannam spent a happy childhood in a succession of country vicarages, and took a degree in history, both of which have stood her in good stead in her writing career.  She is the author of many acclaimed historical novels and has written a number of columns for The Northern Echo. She currently lives with her husband on the fringe of beautiful Durham City.
