Jeremy Maas was born in Penang, Malaya in 1928 and went on to be educated at Pembroke College, Oxford. He was one of Britain's leading authorities on Victorian painting and was the author of several books, including Victorian Painters and Gambart. Jeremy Maas died in 1997.
